Worth School, Turners Hill, Crawley New Sixth Form Centre
Client: Worth School
Contract Value: £4.3m
Duration: 76 weeks
Sector: Education
Procurement: Competitive Tender
Completion: March 2022
Contract: JCT Standard Building Contract With Quantities (2016)
This new sixth form building at Worth School provides first class support, learning and social facilities and enables the expansion of the sixth form from 200 to 300 pupils. The two-storey, linear, building incorporates 6 new classrooms, 5 smaller seminar rooms, 4 staff offices, a social space, a large specialised study space, ancillary storage, and WCs. The building also includes a new library and a multi-purpose hall for use by the whole school.
The building features a cross-laminated timber frame with the ribbed structure to the upper floor ceilings exposed, and has been engineered to be as near carbon zero as possible. Full height windows and skylights take fullest advantage of natural light, and natural ventilation is featured throughout the building.
Materials have been chosen to complement those in the existing buildings and the final building will provide a much-needed link between the two current main areas of the school. Landscaping and paths will further link the new and the existing buildings, giving a much more cohesive feel to the campus.
